Dr. Andrei Klochko is co-founder and CEO of Airthium, a Y Combinator-backed company developing high-temperature heat-pump thermal energy storage to decarbonize industrial heat and the power grid. Airthium's proprietary Stirling-engine-based heat pumps deliver up to three times more heat per unit of electricity at temperatures up to 1,000°F, with the same machine designed to provide seasonal energy storage. A French engineer with a master's and PhD in plasma physics from École Polytechnique, he founded Airthium in 2015 immediately after his doctorate, building the first prototype single-handedly before co-founder Franck Lahaye joined months later.
